Fundamentals of vehicle dynamics

The dynamic behavior of a vehicle at different driving conditions (e.g. acceleration, cornering, braking, etc.) and the response to different disturbances (surface irregularity, crosswinds, etc.) is studied both, theoretically and by means of computational simulation. Further, the influence of different components (shock absorber, tires, etc.) and the integrated control systems (ABS, ESC, etc.) is displayed on the dynamic behavior of the vehicle.

Fundamentals of Vehicle Dynamics

Form of teaching

The module is divided in lecture and practice (each 2 weekly semester hours). All students will hold a presentation about a specific topic. Lecture and practice will partly be as blended learning. Computer exercises will be held in our computer pool room of the department.
Dates and duration
The module is available during the summer semester and can be finished in one semester.
Requirements

a) Mandatory: very good knowledge in automotive technology, possible by attending the course "Fundamentals of Automotive Technology I and II"; save and transferable basic technical knowledge of mechanics with emphasis on system dynamics and oscillation; good knowledge of the German language and the ability for abstraction in technical contexts
b) Obligatory: presentation of technical results orally and in written form
Examination requirements

The final test at the end of the course counts 60%. The grade of the exercises, a small test and a possible presentation counts 40%.
Note
The module is part of "Fundamentals of study" ("Grundlagen der Studienrichtung") for undergraduate students. Based on this module you can visit the module "MATLAB/Simulink examples from the vehicle dynamics".
